Riding on the success of the Tegra 2 chips Nvidia is moving forward with the next generation of the Tegra chips – the Tegra 3. NVidia Tegra 3 is almost complete, although no one knows the release date of Tegra 3.
It is expected that soon after the release of the Tegra 3, we can hope for the Tegra 4 – likely, in late 2011 or early 2012. It is learnt that it is in development but, yes, even in the early stages of the project.
So What do you expect from Nvidia Tegra? First of all, has proved a very good platform for certain hardware devices, especially portable media players and certain mobile phones. Tegra 1 started with a very good start, followed by Tegra 2 has continued to improve the initial product.
We have already started seeing Tegra 2 chips in a large number of products including many smartphones. The important design wins include Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, LG Optimus 2X and many more. With this people are awaiting for the newer year end launch of the Nvidia Tegra 3 chip which will provide significantly improved performance. Code named Kal-El, Tegra 3 chips will have performance comparable to the COre 2 Duo processors. And the big thing is, the lower power consumption, an integrated graphics controller. A fanless Core 2 Duo without heat sink and no need for an external discrete graphics. Does it look too good to be true ?
