The Intel core i7-2640M is a fast dual core processor for notebooks. This processor is based on the Sandy Bridge architecture and comes with the 32nm manufacturing process. The Sandy Bridge architecture is enabled Turbo Boost and HyperThreading technologies successfully for this processor. The Hyperthreading facility will offer handling 4 threads at once for the processor. Similarly, the Turbo Boost technology can overclock the base clock rate of the processor from 2.8 GHz to 3.5 GHz successfully basing on the cores usage and temperature conditions. To be exact, this overclocking procedure will be 3.3 GHz, when two cores are active and it will be 3.5GHz, when one core is active.

The Satellite C655-S5221 from Toshiba is available exclusively at Fry’s at a price close to $450. So there is no way to compare its prices at other retailers. The only question is whether the $450 is justified for this notebook. The quick answer is yes – You get and ipad with a very slow processor, and awkward way to type messages ( it does not come with a keyboard) and does not has USB port with which you can hook up any printer – and you pay a higher price – all on the name of Apple and its show piece that helps very little to solve your little of your computing needs. If you just want to play games and show off the pictures to your friends – and that is all you do – well pay like $600 and take an iPad – but – if you want a machine that you can you for word, spread sheet, that you can use to hook of printers and other USB accessory, type for long time with the ease of a nice ergonomically designed keyboard – go for the Satellite C655-S5221. It will not disappoint you.

The Satellite C655-S5221 comes with Intel Pentium B940 processor and offshoot of the Sandy Bridge architecture known for its improved integrated graphics performance and new Turbo 2.0. While the turbo feature, a mechanism by which the processor increases its frequency to cater for the increase in the demand of the processing power is disabled in the Pentium B940, it is stil fast with its two cores running at 2.0 GHz.

The notebook comes with 4 GB of memory and has 15.6 inch screen. The other notable feature is a long battery life that lasts “Up to 6.75 hours” according to Toshiba’s, which lists this notebook at a price of $458 ( MSRP).

Other than that this notebook has all the common features including a DVD writer, USB ports wifi and web cam. There is no bluetooth, no HDMI port. The Toshiba Satellite C655-S5221 will perform well for most of your computing needs including spreadsheets, emails and web browsing.
